The Newport Tower was a conversion of a grande Victorian mansion into eight one-bedroom units. The name is a reference to a similar historical building in Newport, Rhode Island. Lock7 purchased the building from the previous owner, who had used the house sparingly for short business trips when he was in DC. The house has a rich history- it was once the site of Pollard’s Wood and Coal, one of the first lumber yards in the city. In 1895, when the house was originally built, it was used as a doctor’s office. Amazingly, most of the historical features remain intact and were refurbished and re-used in the new condominiums. These features include the heart pine floors, original fireplace mantels, original stained glass and wood trim.
